Q: Surgery for separated clavicle and chipped knuckle ?

Hi, I was in a bike vs car accident. I am recovering from multiple injuries but mainly Im concerned about the separated clavicle and the bone chip in my right hand, middle knuckle.
As far as the clavicle goes, I want to know how it is determined when to have surgery or not regarding my case. I was told my Kaiser, no surgery required. I dont appreciate the discomfort of the popping and the bump on my shoulder that is resulting. I still have a lot of pain associated with it but I am assured that will go away in about 3-6 months.
The chipped knuckle was offered no treatment. Im concerned that I have pain that feels like arthritis in my right hand, my main hand for doing things. Can that and should that chipped be removed or will it reattach itself to the rest of the bone in that area over time. I was just diagnosed with the chip but was not told anything to do about it. Most of my friends are offering me condolences on having Kaiser health care. Im beginning to believe they are on to something.
Anyway, I need to know if I should have surgery for either or both injuries. Can you advise me please,
Robin

i was in a car crash in march where i broke numerous bones including my clavicle (well smashed it 2 pieces) and i had a plate in it, it gives me alot of grief my arm will go dead n ill ave tingling in my fingers and ill often get a cold in it. i'd advise that u wait it out n c how it goes, coz it mayb worse in the long run and the surgery is painful. as 4 ur knuckle id leave it ave broken my knuckles loads of times wen i was younger, n they ave held by themselves. But yer if u r unable 2 move u arm up n down or the pain gets worse get it sorted.

Thank you for your reply. I have talked to those with suffering from similar injury (clavicle separation) and those not having the surgery regret not giving it a try. Those who have had the surgery still have issues. Regarding the chip....it seems they could remove the chip at the very least and that would be very minor surgery.

The chip can be bothersome...I would have it removed if you can..My husband had this problem and it wasn't until this was taken care of that he was without pain...Good luck..

You know, Kaiser NP that I saw did not even offer anything as a solution to my pain. She just said to go ahead and use my hand... easy for her to say as she is not the one with the pain. Im hating Kaiser medicine more and more with each interaction.
