Q: surgery for drop foot

My 3 1/2 year old son will be having surgery again in a few months. He will have several things done while he is under sedation. One of the procedures that will be to take bone from his pelvis and placed in his ankle to give him more support for his drop foot on that leg. Does anyone have any information or experience about this procedure? I would like to know if it helped you or the person you know that had it done and what was the recovery like.
Thank you

i heard a lecture at a podiatry meeting given by a dr. david gitlin about rerouting tendons and muscles to correct this problem might be something to look at? the doctor showed some very impressive results.

thanks so much salliemeter - went to see Dr. Gitlin about 2 months ago. his office was on 92st and park ave. was kinda hard to find him but glad i did. dropfoot diagnosed after an acupuncture needle hit a nerve 10 years ago. just got bACK into regular shoes this week. he did a tendon transfer from muscles in bottom of my foot and moved then to top of foot. now walking a million times better even barefoot. i left my brace at him office (dont need it anymore) ill post his number if thats OK. 212-372-0991 thats his manhattan office. very thankful. he gave me his cell number and i was able to contact him at any time if i had a concern. also came to hy house for the first visit after surgery when i didnt have anyone to take me to the office.
great! thank you
