Q: Surgery during pregnancy

I am 25 years old and am now 25 weeks pregnant. At 19 weeks I had a bowel resection to remove a cancerous tumor. I seem to be recovering very well and the baby is growing and very active in there. My concern now is how the anesthetic from the surgery and the pain meds (demoral & morphine) taken after the surgery can affect the baby. Will I see problems when she is born, or later on in her life? Or will she be born perfectley healthy.

Extremely eHealthy
Some clinical studies about effect of anesthesia and anesthetic drugs to the fetus during pregnancy, have shown that general surgery in pregnancy causes no increase in stillbirths or birth defects, but leads to increased infant mortality and lower birth weight.

Morphine and Demerol, both are drugs for which studies have not been able to prove an increased risk of fetal abnormalities (they are used extensively in pregnancy and are safe in appropriate dosages, Demerol is also one of the most commonly used obstetrical analgesics by women in labor).
