Hello everyone. Can I please have your opinions and thoughts? Back in June 2011, after a meal, the gland under my left jaw very noticeably swelled up. Then it subsided after about 20 minutes. The next time I experienced this, was about two months later when exactly the same thing happened after a meal and then it became a regular occurrence. The swelling would occur during eating and then subside afterwards. However, in October 2011, the gland swelled up and did not subside. Four months later, it is still swollen. Course after course of antibiotics have not helped. I was referred to an ENT for an ultrasound first, which showed nothing and then sent for a sialagram of the Submandibular gland, which again, showed that there was no blockage and a normal duct.

I am now extremely worried because I do not know what the underlying cause of the swelling is. I went to see my dentist who took an X-ray. The X-ray showed nothing untoward in the gum/root of my teeth.

I have been referred to a Max'facial surgent. Will he perform a biopsy? I have a blood test due next Tuesday, but I am unsure what it is going to be tested for? I think autoimmune diseases? Does this mean a test for cancer?

Hi there,

I found this post by searching google, I have exactly the same issue! Mine still comes and goes, it's always related to eating or sometimes it seems to appear if I have te fire on in my house, as of the dry air is causing the problem.
I haven't been to the doctors yet as it had vanished for months and so I just assumed maybe it had been a blockage in my gland that had cleared, but tonight it's back!
So I will be going to the gp as soon as possible. Only problem is that it doesn't always show when I eat and so I have no way of my gp seeing it!

Can I ask what eventually came of your tests, if any?
Thanks
