I had a very small yeast infection, and it seemed to go away on its own. But the other day my boyfriend and I had sex, which was my first time. I knew that pain during your first time was common for most people. But .. I'm gonna say about 45 minutes to an hour had passed (after we finished) my vagina got really irritated. It actually felt exactly like the very first yeast infection I ever had, which was incredibly annoying. I told my mom and she went and bought a generic version of Monistat, which I really don't usually like the generic brands, I've found in the past that it hasn't even completely gotten rid of the yeast infection before. But anyway she got me the 3-day treatment, and I've used 2 days of it so far. Usually when I use Monistat the irritation starts to fade away a great deal even after the first day, but it's hardly changed at all and it's been 2 days of treatment. I know it has to be a yeast infection, because I've had them before and this feels like the first one I had. But it's just being incredibly stubborn and it wont go away. I've been applying the cream throughout the day and the treatments at night before bed, and drying after showers and everything. I've even been using K-Y Jelly occasionally. Could it just be that the treatment I bought is a rip off? I mean, it was about 8 dollars less than the 3-day Monistat treatment so my Mom wanted to get it. But I really haven't seen any results at all. Could I just be irritated from my first time?

Did you use condoms?
I'd say that if your infection doesn't go away after treatment then you should go make sure that it's really a yeast infection.

Yes, yeast infections are so annoying!!! I am on the third month of Trivora (formerly Triphasil) birth control pills and every month I get a yeast infection right before my period starts. It is so incredibly annoying and it causes me to become so upset and frustrated. The Monistat 3-day ovule suppositories are pretty good. I tried a generic version of Diflucan once, and the yeast infection lingered on too long for me. Usually, you would feel immediate results after taking the Diflucam pill the next day, but that generic brand did not have the same powerful healing effect. Stick to the name brands to help with the battling of the yeast infections...I think!

Yeast infections can take a week to clear up. It's possible that this yeast infection is just worse than the other. The generic brand of monistat is pretty much the same. If you look at the ingredients and compare them, you will see that. I wouldn't blame it on the medication.

Have you had sex since you got the infection? If so, it's possible that your partner got it from you and is giving it right back to you every time you have sex.

If it doesn't clear up, I'd head to a doctor so they can figure out exactly what it is.

Yeast infections....
You should go to a gynecologist and get checked out. They will do a smear and a culture. And they can tell you if its yeast and what type of yeast it happens to be. curtsey

Yeast infections
Much of the previous information/replies are right on point, however I would like to add that yeast infections that seem to reoccur can also be the result of diet. I was suffering from yeast infections every month. It seemed as soon as I cleared one up within a few weeks there was another one.

I went with a friend to a holistic health center over a year and a half ago. When I mentioned my problem with yeast infections she asked me did I eat a lot of pizza, (yes love it). Did I eat pasta again another of my favorites and last but not least I love sandwiches and bread. These foods are high in yeast. I don't drink beer but yes there is a lot of yeast in that as well.

Becasue I had a diet high in yeast I was a breeding ground for yeast in my body. YUCK! Well I took her advice and limited my intake of these foods. I did not delete them, I just monitored how much. She also suggested that I eat yogurt once a day. The best yogurt is probiotic (that is not a brand name it is a class). Kelfer is a brand that is probiotic and sold in most health food and some grocery chains.

I am happy to report I have not had a yeast infection now for over a year and a half. I hope this helps not just you but anyone else who is suffering with ongoing yeast infections. An occasional yeast infection is one thing but recurrent means there is a little something else going on.

One other thing I would like to mention. Tight jeans and underwear are also culprits in making your crotch a natural petri dish for creating more yeast infections. Use cotton underwear and avoid silk or tricote panties or thongs.

Yeast....
So I guess maybe instead of going to a regular gynecologist, maybe I should go to a hollistic doctor. But I do not know if my insurance would cover a hollistic doctor. And I need to change my diet for good.

stubborn yeast infection
The place I go to is called Body Basics and no I did not use insurance I paid $40 to have a detox done. It was while she was doing that she noticed quite a bit of yeast coming out of my body through my feet..It looked like yeast was bubbling up in the water and it was very yukie to look at. That is when asked about my diet. I did not go there for help with the yeast infection I just went because a friend of mine was finding wonderful benefits with some health problems she wsa dealing with so I thought I will try it once. It turns out it was the best $40 I have ever spent.

Don't let your insurance determine checking out other health benefits. If it cost you a few dollars out of your pocket then cheerfully pay it because you and your good health are worth that and so much more.
