Strokes cannot be inherited, but the conditions that increase the possibility of having one can. One of the main factors that affect stroke is atherosclerosis, which, on the other hand, is affected by the level of cholesterol in the blood. The quantity and the activity of certain of the enzymes that regulate the metabolism of the lipids can be inherited. You might wan to check your blood regularly (at least once a year) for both blood lipids (triglycerides and cholesterol: HDL and LDL), and blood glucose. If the results show increased levels. Your doctor might recommend you adequate treatment (diet and/or medications).
