Hey, i recently went to the Doctor about 2-3 weeks ago cz i was a week late on my period (doctor said she wouldnt contact me if it came back negative and i didnt get contacted). it is now 2-3 weeks later and i am still not on my period. i dont know whether my body is fooling me or i am stressing or i am pregnant but i have had really tender nipples of the last week or more and i am hungry all the time, some days my mood is fine and some days i want to shout at everyone and tell them all to go away.

Can pregnancy tests come back negative too early into pregnancy?, may i actually be pregnant, i dnt know whether to do a test and then it come back negative and feel like iv wasted my time and money again. i would estimate im about 3-4 wks late now.

please help

Hi,

Welcome to the ehealthforum and I am really glad to help you out. Your concern is regarding the status of your pregnancy. Since you have missed your last menstrual periods so it raises the possibility of pregnancy.

For confirming the status of pregnancy by urine for pregnancy test (UPT),the most accurate way to test for pregnancy is to wait until after your period is due. First appearance of pregnancy hormone, HCG, due to implantation occurs 6-12 days after ovulation. Ideally the urine for pregnancy test should be done 1 week after missing your periods. I sincerely suggest you to do a urine for pregnancy test and if the test comes negative, then you can get serum HCG levels estimated which is a more specific test than urine for pregnancy test. For that please consult a gynecologist.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
