Experienced User
hello, i am an EMT-B and i have had several strange sypmtoms developing over the course of about 6 years now,. many of these may be unrelated, but i am going to give a complete (to my knowledge) list of symptoms.
first known symptoms statred shortly after my doctor started me on Strattera for my ADD and chronic depression. i would pass out at random times and several times have eded up hitting my head on doornobs and such, so my doctor took me off the meds. i stopped all ADD treatment after that, but still have these side effects, although not so severe. it is almot like i am in a constant state of severe dehydration, even when i am properly hydrated. (sever orthostatic hypotension)
at my last doctor visist, my BP was low to the point he reccommended a high sodium diet (failed to ask what the numbers were)
i have also experienced several severe changes in flavor from one day to the next, for example, the mints at sonic now taste like bannana to me. one day it tasted like mint, the next it tasted like a bannana(i worked at sonic for over a year)
i have noticed that i have become almost paranoid all the time. i am constantly checking to see if im being followed, even when i dont feel endagered in any way.
and most recently, i have had a very persistent taste of ammonia in my mouth that can only be masked by other flavors for a brief time window(less than 1 minute)

if youy have any further questions, fell free to contact me for more info

Ammonia odor on someone's breath can indicate kidney disease. Usually they can't taste it, but maybe you are more sensitive to taste. Have you told your doctor about that? You need to go in and have your kidney's checked ASAP. That could also explain your dehydration symptoms.

The only other cause for ammonia breath I found was Helicobacter pylori gastritis, which is the bacteria that can cause stomach ulcers. You should ask to be tested for that, too. It's easily fixed with antibiotics. Do you have any other stomach symptoms?

Did they do any tests after you hit your head to make sure you didn't have any injury? How long ago was this?

Go get these things checked out and see if anything pans out. I wish I could help you more, but I hope I at least gave you a place to start. If your regular doctor doesn't take this seriously, go see a specialist, like a Nephrologist (kidney doctor).

Please write back and tell us what happens or if you have any more information or questions. I wish you the best of luck. Don't give up. Sometimes it takes people a while before they find the doctor who has the "Eureka" moment. When that happens, all the searching will be worth it.
