I have been having asthma and allergy symptoms lately. I have a sore throat at times and shortness of breath,as well as dry mouth, and head stuffiness but not always nasal conjestion. Sometimes ear popping. Today my throat has been scratchy and itchy with some wheezing. The one symptom I can't figure out I have had on and off for a few months now. Sometimes when I lay down to try to sleep I get this involuntary whistle. Usually I feel the stuffy head feeling, and hear the whistle in my throat maybe four of five times even if I hold my breath. Then awhile later it happens again and I cannot fall asleep. I am overweight by about 60lbs and may have some sleep apnea, but as I said this happens when I am still awake.

Wheezing can cause a whistling sound. It's irritating but not a big deal. When you get the wheezing/ phlegm under control, the whistling will go away too.
