Hello. I believe I have strained a lower left ab muscle. For at least 3 weeks no I am unable to do any crunches or curls of any kind. And also unable to perform the plank position due to a sudden sharp pain. Do these injuries heal on there own or should I consider seeing my physician?? Can I just workout my upper body or stop working out all together?? Thankyou.

Hello and welcome to e health forum.

Yes, most muscle sprains, take a while to heal completely.

You can wait for 4-6 weeks, for complete recovery of the sprained muscles.

In case the pain is unbearable, you might consult with your doctor, who can prescribe you proper muscle relaxants, and pain killers, which will provide you proper relief.

In addition, application of heat pads , can provide soothing relief.
