The first day of my last menstruation was Oct. 16 2009. I stopped taking a french birth control called "mélodia" about 1 1/2 weeks ago I had taken it for over a year. I am american and live in france! The first day of my last menstruation was Oct.16 2009. I have a 28 day cycle. A week after I had a day that spotting of brown discharge that eventually changed to a red then faded away later the same day. Then I started having cramping, and felt really dizzy. I was suppose to start my menstruation that friday Nov.13 2009 but I didnt instead I had light white discharge coming out for a few days. Today I have sore nipples and light blue veins. Also cramping and low back pains and the feeling I want to vomit but never do... What does this mean? And what does all this mean? I took a pregnancy test November 21st and it was negative. But I have stopped having tender breast and the cramps are just tiny cramps now but there still there. Could I be pregnant possibly?

Thank you

Hi, and thanks for your medical question on eHealth forum

Once you stop the birth control pills, it is normal to have spotting, irregular periods for a few cycles. Then the periods settle down. During this time if you are having unprotected sex, then the actual day you conceived is difficult to determine. The breast tenderness etc is a withdrawal symptom of going off the pills.

Repeat another pregnancy test now. If it is positive, then because you have cramps, rule out ectopic by ultrasound.

If it is negative, consult a gynecologist to rule out other causes of missed periods like stopping the pills (you have this reason), hypothyroidism, PCOS, high cholesterol and life style changes.

Please consult your gynecologist and get yourself examined as a confirmed diagnosis cannot be given on net. Hope this helps. Take care!
