Hi, ive just done some searching online and saw these two herbal remedies. More importantly, if this depression carries on, seek further professional advice. I work in a mental health hospital on the depression ward, and so many people go home every week after years of suffereing from depression - alone. There are people out there who care and want to help!

There are other ways to help depression, besides medication, such as exercise, cognitive behaviour therapy, socialising or finding an interest, tidying up clutter and throwing away everything that reminds you of the past so you are able to have blank sheet to start again with no visual reminders.

These may help:

New research at the University of Toronto, found that a two month protocol of probiotics not only boosted chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) patients "good" bacteria in the gut but also led to a significant decrease in their depression and anxiety symptoms.

and...

ST JOHN's WORT, or hypericum, a type of herb, is often sold in capsule form in health shops and some pharmacies as treatment for mid to moderate depression. It may affect the neurotransmitters in the brain in a similar way to SSRI antidepressant drugs. There is a significant amount of research to show that St John's Wort is effective as an antidepressant, with fewer side effects than medical drugs.

I'm going to have to try the St. John's Wort. I've heard so many good things about it for depression.

Secrets,

I was a cutter and I know what you are going through. When you're feeling good you can't imagine ever hurting yourself again but when those horrible memories start flashing back and the depression sinks it you just want the emotional pain to go away. I know you want help or you wouldn't be on this forum asking for advice. You can get help and learn to treat your body like it is precious to you, as it should be. It's not ok to cut your skin and you really do need to seek professional help. Is there any reason you don't want to seek help from a psychologist?? If you find one you are really comfortable with, they really help. It took me four different psychologists before I found one I really felt understood me. I'm here if you should have any questions. You can PM me too if you wish. If it's impossible for you to see a psychologist due to no insurance, etc. I will do my best to help you.

I used to cut myself too, and still do but not nearly as often. One thing that somewhat helped me was if you have a friend with a problem then for both of you to try to over come your problems together & promise to stop whatever behaviors are happening..sometimes it isn't enough to stop you from doing it, but other times you feel like you should be strong just for the person on the other end of the promise. Also, some good things to do to try to distract yourself is to listen to music (not music that will make you more depressed / trigger memories), clean, or go for a walk or drive around somewhere. Usually when you're in a state of mind where you want to cut the last thing you want to do is talk to someone about it right then, but maybe just talking to someone about another non realted topic or trying to hangout with somoene to get your mind off of it will help...I hope that some of this is kind of helpful. Oh, and also if you can, when you're having the thought of wanting to do it try to fast forward in your head of how you're going to feel after you do it...it helps in that moment, but at least with me i feel so guilty and think alright now i have to try to hide this once it sinks in what i've done. Especially with it being summer you aren't going to want to be walking around trying to cover up your arms. Sorry this was so long, but i hope that some of this helps =].
