My girlfriend since June has had constant stomach pain. She has gone to the ER a handful of times and gone and seen at least 5 different doctors. GI Specialists on top of that who are stumped on what to do. Her stomach pain seems to get worse after going under stress, but i find it hard to believe that stress can be a root cause of all these symptoms.

Her diet before her pain was buffalo wings and salad pretty much. Her main problems stem with a constant stomach pain that is with her almost at all times. Some days are worse then others, and she feels like there are a ton of bricks sitting on her chest and making it hard to breath. The worst pain is in her lower abdomen. Certain days it causes her to just want to lay in the fetal position. She has problems heavier foods such as eating meat or heavy pastas. After eating it she will soon throw up, guaranteed. For some reason she can eat Venison jerky, which is probably as lean a meat you can find so my best guess its because all of the fat is out of it. Most of her meals consist of soups and salads, breads, and cheese. She can eat fish, but just baked not fried. On the days when she feels great, which is prolly once every two weeks, she will feel good and then maybe over eat and soon after her stomach feels sick. She often doesn't feel like eating and on the days she feels good she's afraid to eat. When she feels sick and might throw up she tries to take a nap or go to bed so she doesn't throw up.
When her pain gets bad, she passes blood in her stool. She was thought to have had endometriosis or a cyst on her ovary because she was passing blood their as well infrequently. She changed birth control to limit her period for every 3 months but it still didn't stop it. Everyone once and a while that will come back and for a couple days she might bleed despite it not being her period.
She's had colonoscopy, endoscopies, and blood taken numerous times. She's been checked for crones and her kidneys are fine. Her first endoscopy showed nothing and everything looked normal. She just had another one in the middle of december, and her esophagus and everything looked normal despite months of throwing up. They took pieces of her stomach and small intestine and esophagus at check and everything was normal. Her Colon was normal but they couldn't get into her small intestine at all. They even did an ultrasound on her gall bladder which came up normal.

We talk to people and find alot of people who have similar cases. I guess I'm just looking to see if anyone is undergoing the same thing or any suggestion. It sucks when you go to a doctor and find out everything is normal and they can't answer why your body hurts so bad. Any suggestions on diet to would help, she's lactose and tolerant so milky nutrient shakes she can't have, but she loves cheese. A weird change is she use to love saltier tasting foods and hated candy or chocolate, but ever since she started getting pain she craves chocolate now and Ice cream which she would never touch before. So any suggestions on ways to eat healthier, get protein, or nutrients will help.

Hello and thank you for posting your medical question on E health forum.

From the history provided it seems that your girlfriend has had symptoms including abdominal cramps, intolerance to fatty foods, nausea, vomiting, and one episode of bleeding in the stools.

The constellation of symptoms could be due to peptic ulcer disease, Gastro Esophageal Reflux disease, or related to her stress of associated medical conditions.

Treatment would be via proper hydration, diet and lifestyle modification, physical exercise, and medications including antacids, omeprazole or other acid reducing medications.

Adopting a sitting upright posture for 1 hr post meals will help in relieving the symptoms.

In addition tests to detect H-Pylori infection in the stomach and specific treatment for 3-4 weeks may be helpful in case of H pylori infection induced gastritis.

She might consider consulting your physician or a gastroenterologist for additional evaluation and treatment.

I hope you find this helpful.

I am the same I have had all the same tests too . I have recently been told it is Irritable Bowel Syndrome but I'm not so sure that I havn't got some kind of food intolerance so I am currently doing 2 weeks wheat free diet then move onto dairy free etc and see how it changes my symtoms. by the sounds of it she might be the same try sticking to a certain diet and not chop and change what she's eating and keep a diary then you should see what days have been bad and what she has eaten!
Good Luck & fingers crossed for all of us!!

It could still b endometriosis... I have similar problems but some different issues as well. For 7 yrs I have dealt w this pain. I found a dr willing to do an exploratory laparoscopy after all of my tests came back negative and about 15 trips to the er (usually in the middle of the night for severe simultaneous vommiting and diarrhea) and he found a tremendous amt of scar tissue and a raging pid probably caused by the irritation of my intestines... neither cat, ultrasounds, or bloodwork had shown the tissue or infection. The bad part is, if it's endo, the surgeries cab make it worse. I just had a 2nd lapro n my dr sd I didn't have much tissue and the areas I sd were hurting were from the scars from the 1st lapro. It's just hard to get treatment and abd issues are always the hardest 2 diagnose. Just keep going to your dr, if he or she doesn't listen, don't torture yourself, go find a new one!

Ive had similar symptoms for 10 years and an immunologist had my path slides reread for eosinophils and it came back positive for eosinphilic gastroenteritis, which is an allergic disease of eht gi tract. I have had to remove all soy products9found in most breads) and natural flavorings, all milk products, eggs and anything containing eggs, wheat and gluten, some fruits and seafood. My symptoms are less troublesome but I am waiting to be seen at the mayo clinc for help.

Have her check food labels for the ingredient Carrageenan and avoid it. It can cause the symptoms you describe. It's in ice cream, cottage cheese, hot chocolate, coffee creamers, yogurt and may other products. It can even be in some canned products and lunch meats. Do the research on carrageenan. One final thing. Did they check her gallbladder?. I hope this helps.

One other thing to be checked for would be acute intermittent porphyria.
