Q: Stomach jumps when swallowing

Hello everyone,

Ive been searching the internet and It's difficult to really diagnose myself and believing it without someone telling me straight up. The story is..about 3 weeks ago I had woken up and had difficulty breathing, it may not have been THAT difficult but When I woke up I knew something was wrong and with my nerves getting to me, my throat was probably tighting up, My realitives all rushed over to my house and Comforted me to calm my nerves. I managed to go three days with a really gasy feeling in my stomach, everytime I burped I felt a bit better. It was VERY difficult to sleep at night and I would wake every hour or so. I went to a walk-in clinic still with all the symptoms and they took a blood, urine, and throat scrape test. It was obvious to them I had like..a whiteness in the back of my throat and said it is a viral infection in my throat. They put me on amoxicillin twice a day. And I came back two days later feeling better at about 90% and they told me my bloodwork was all fine. I stopped taking the amoxicillin because they said I didn't have to anymore my body would have to fight it off itself. The next day or so, better and better each day and eventually back to 100%. I was feeling great again, I could breathe and had no stomach problems because I was back on track and eating again!

Fast forward about a week and a half later, to May 1st. Around 8pm we went out to eat, we sat down and I took a sip of my water and something was not right! There was a jump in my stomach each time I swallowed, right in the middle of my chest. It still to this day scares me because I don't know what that jump is. Ever since then I still have that jump in my stomach when I swallow, at least most of the time. I dont each much at all everyday because it feels very strange but I know I need something in my stomach. My stomach feels like its caving in like in very very skinny. I feel weak and alot of the times dizzy, my breathing even got a bit difficult again. My digestive track seems normal because I can make a normal stool about everyday, this morning I had slight diarrhea though.

At the very moment Im still having those symptoms of the jumping in stomach when swallowing, I just want to close my eyes and lay down because Im dizzy.

I don't have a fever I check every night before bed. No vomiting either.

I would appreciate any help as soon as possible. I'm listing as much information as I can, I will be able to respond with more.

hello
I think your problem may be that your not eating not eating is making you feel like this if you have anxiety or panic attacks aswell dont know if you have then this can worsen your symtoms, I know because Im overly senstivate to my body and and that comes with anxiety and depression. If you have any chest pain Id get it cheaked out just to be on the safe side ie getting a ecg but I dont think it would be that. I say just eat keep busy and relax!

yeah, That is what my family is telling me. When Im with people I don't feel as bad but I still feel it there...I try to keep my mind off of it and relax but when my stomach growls I start up again and I have to sit in my chair a certain way to feel okay, laying down usually makes my stomach feel like its caving in and it just doesn't feel good. I can see Im very skinny and I've probably lost alot of weight. What kind of food should I be eating right now though?

Also, the jump in my stomach seems to be gone, but I can feel my heart beating in my stomach. I still feel weak and my breathing is still wrong because it feels like it's tighting up.

I really appreciate your reply and concern, even that has helped me calm down.

hi again
Well I know how worrying things can be when you feel somethings wrong. Id honestly say that its all coming down to you not eating enough I know sometimes you can go pass it and just not feel hungery but you just have tell your yourself that you need to eat. Dont worry about your stomach beating youve got a main artery there like u have a pulse in your neck that you can sometimes its the same for your stomach also cuz your skinny and focusing on it youll see it more, I know I know u feel like that you think something might be wrong but anxiety and worry and make your body act weird. Try eating pasta or something filling! even if u dont wanna eat force youself cuz you need to your stomachs craving it. hope that helps

Thanks koala1. Well last night I had some pasta, just plain pasta, about a platefull. Other then that I had about two spoonfulls of potato salad. I don't know how much I should be eating. My knees don't feel as weak this morning but my stomach hurts again once I woke up. I had a regular stool and am now drinking some Activia. I try all day to calmdown and get my mind off of it, but I cant stop feeling my heartbeat and worrying about it.
I really thank you again for your reply, they are very reassuring.

Hi again
Hi thats really good glad that your eating also keep drinking alot through the day. You knees are weak and you feel dizzy because your hungry try eating like pasta jacket pototos some veg some fruit!I know its the worst thing ever worrying about your heart beating but Id be more worried if it wasnt! Honestly Ive had a real worry about my heart for ages my anxiety was sky high about it but I found when I relaxed fully it went, try not dwell on things the more u are doing aswell in a day you actually just dont have the time to worry and it gives your a rest! its a classic anxiety symtom becoming aware of your heart beat so theres nothing wrong just believe that Smile

x

hey, just thought I'd leave a check up and maybe figure out if NOW what im feeling is alright. I've been eating little by little more and I don't feel as weak. But I have a strange feeling in my chest and a very small pinching like feeling where my heart is. The jumping in my stomach is gone Im pretty sure. My now what ails me is still my breathing and heart. It just feels off....since I've been eating more I had diarrhea twice this morning.
