Q: Stomach acid problems caused by anxiety / stress?

Quick synopsis, I have generalized anxiety disorder and am currently receiving treatment (welbutrin, ativan and now counseling). Just yesterday I had the worst experience of my life in which my stomach was in such intense pain I thought that something inside me had broken. I felt waves of chest pain and lightheadedness which I'm thinking were panic attacks, because once I was able to mentally calm myself the stomach problems persisted for a couple hours. I called an ambulence and then went to my physician. The pain went away as I was there and he prescribed Prilosec and increased my Welbutrin dosage as well as my Ativan dosage frequency.

My question is, was the stomach acid problem unrelated to my anxiety (perhaps diet or other common causes) or would this more likely be a symptom of my anxiety? I know this is a question more for my personal physician, but I am curious about whether there is a relationship between these two things or not.

When we are anxiuos our body is prepared for figh or flight and adrenalin is produce and blood is diverted to our muscles ready to figh or run. Our digestive processes are likely to suffer in this situation so I believe your stomach troubles woud go if you can successfully address the anxiety. Hope this helps,

Kind regards,
