Still depressed over abortion
Posted: 04-12-05 20:12pm

I am still depressed over an abortion I had 2 years ago. My ex and I were sooo in love and planned a child, I was so happy and so was he. Then he got super controlling, abusive, hit me,threatened to kill me if I ever leave him, etc..It was bad! My parents forced me to get an ab or they'd disown me...Im an only child with no other family in this world  my friends also agreed ab. And although me and him at this point were broken up from his abuse, we both still wanted the baby. Then, he just neglected me, and stopped calling I was so confused, and lost, and my family dragged me to the ab center. I never got over it. A month later I found out he already had a child! A newborn by his mistress(his first child), yet I thought I was having his first! The cheating health questions never even told me that his fling(3 night stand)got pregnant and had his baby!I never even knew he was cheating..We were together 24-7!He even denied having a baby for a while! His mother confirmed it for me! Til this day he tries to get back with me through different sources. And whats crazy is, I never stopped loving him!! Am I crazy? And I know he feels the same..But id never ever go back to him...Just wanna get over him, and the abortion already!! Ps-he called me yesterday..Hes now in jail for 3 years! My life is like a drama tv show, but I swear its true! Please help!!!!!!!!!! Thank you :( I just dont know how to get over it, and the guilt, and all the sorrow ive been thru.

For one, recognize that regardless of your feeling for him, he is not worth it, he doesn't deserve you. Obviously he has serious issues with comittment and faithfullness, and you don't deserve that.

As for the mood problems related to the abortion, the best way to handle this is through counseling.

Because it is regarding an abortion, and because this issue is so embroiled in religion, I would advice against a religios and/or church-based counselor. Most counties have some form of access to counseling either for free or on a sliding scale. Try to call your county welfare office for a referral. You can also call the clinic where you had the abortion; they will have a list of counselors that will help out specifically with situations just like yours, and in many cases, they have volunteered to see people for counseling without charging.

Still Depressed Over An Abortion....can Anyone Help Me?

Hey still depressed, how are you doing?

Your gynecologist might be able to refer you to such a professional. You could also, of course, explore these issues with the minister, priest or rabbi of her choice.

Ob/gyn christiane northrup, m.D., author of women's bodies, women's wisdom, reports that many women have abortions they don't want because the men in their lives insist on it. But being (or feeling) forced to end a pregnancy against one's will can add another layer of pain.

Help

Im not so sure I would turn to a religious leader for that kind of help. Personally I would be too scared that they would judge me or look down on me (i've had some do that before).

The absolutely best place to check would be your local women's center. They tend to provide counciling for abuse or rape victims, but also help with victims of this subject matter. There are usually some in all areas no matter where you live.

I really hope this helps.
