Q: Steroids during early pregnancy

When my wife was in her 1st or 2nd week for her pregnancy, she got severe allergies and breathing difficulties.
The doctors at the ER tested her for pregnancy, thought it was negative, and gave her high dosage of steroids (50mg, once a day, for two days). She also got high dosage of antihistamine through IV.

Today we found out that we are pregnant.

Does the medication she took risk the embryo in any way? What is the risk? What test should she undergo?
In general, is there sufficient data regarding influence of steroids in such early stages of pregnancy?

thanks!

I can tell you that I received steroids and benadryl due to an allergic reaction at the ER and my OB assured me that the baby would be perfectly fine. I am 11 weeks and 6 days pregnant. I was very worried myself, but like your wife, it sounds like treatment was completely necessary. My OB reminds me that unless I am alive and healthy that the baby can't be alive and healthy either. I had Benadryl and Dexmethasone injections and I was told this would be fine for the baby by my OB.
