Hi I'm a 19 yr old woman. I just found out that I've had chlamydia for five months. Could this had been long enough to cause any permanent problems such as sterility?

Hi there,

I found out I had chlamydia for atleast a year a couple of years ago and now that i have decided I want children its got me worrying.

I have heard that yes it can cause problems because it can lead to PID (Pelivc Inflammatory Disease) which is what makes you sterile or harder to conceive but i doubt that after 5 months it would have caused peoblems, i heard you have to have it for years and then you'd know about it if you have permament damage.

I'm going to see the gyn on monday to see if they check for any damage that has been done.

Good Luck.
