Infertility Answer A3892
If you are trying for a baby for more than a year without success you are probably experiencing sterility. BOTH you and your partner might want to ask for medical help because a sterility problem is mutual. Statistically, sterility is due to the woman in one third of cases, to the man in one third, and in the final third both partners are responsible.

The man is always examined first because medical investigation in men is simpler. A single sperm analyze (spermogram) is usually enough to estimate if the man is fertile or not. If the spermogram is not normal, there are additional medical tests for determining the cause which can’t be found in 50% of cases and is probably genetic.

Medical investigations in women are numerous and more difficult for the woman. These investigations include: vaginal examination, ultrasound scan, hormonal analyses, tests for STD, PAP-test, HSG, hysteroscopy, laparoscopy etc.

You may want to consult a gynecologist about this.
