Q: Steps to encourage skin regeneration
asked by: DoctorQuestion on May 4th, 2009
Hi!
The skin on my face is dry and leathery like. I think i have over dried it by using AHA and home 40% glycolic peel.
Is there anything that can help me go back to normal? Will I ever go back to normal?
Thank you

The skin has a big potential for regeneration. When it is dry, it might look rough rather than smooth. Intense itching might be present. After showering, bathing, or swimming a feeling of skin tightness might be felt. In more severe cases, fine lines or cracks might be visible.

You might try using moisturizers in order to restore the natural moisture of the skin until it regenerates fully. Bathing less and avoiding harsh, drying soaps is also recommended to stop further drying of the skin. The skin regenerates from the lowest to the most superficial layer in approximately 28 days. So, if you do not notice any visible improvements, you might want to visit a dermatologist.
