First of all, I'm just 15 years old. Female.

I've been experiencing pain and discomfort only in my RIGHT knee and leg for nearly a year now. I can't sleep well recently. The pain is gradual. First it wasn't that bad, but now its really affecting me.

Doctors aren't taking me seriously! I've already seen a couple of doctors and all they do is just pass me around. They can't even name my sickness. And i'm so sick and frustrated about it already!

I hope some of you could help me. Please. I've already tried other forums but no one gives me their attention. I hope your the one who could help me.

Well, the pain/discomfort worsens at night or when my legs are at rest. It also hurts when i just stand for quite some time and when i do physical activities that involves my legs. Also when i just walk. the pain/discomfort just attacks suddenly. I really am confused.

I've tried anti-inflammatory drugs but they do not work.

Could anyone help me? Has anyone experienced the same symptoms?
I did some research and my symptoms keep saying BONE CANCER.
i just wanna be sure. I'm pretty scared. But i don't feel a lump. Does that already cross out bone cancer? or i don't feel the lump because its small or something?

I just got my blood results, here it is, I don't know if its connected or something. I'll just post it.

MY RESULTS:
Hemoglobin = 109
Hematocrit = 0.34
WBC Count = 4.50
RBC Count = 3.50
Platelet Count = 200
Lymphocites = 0.48
Neutrophiles = 0.53

REFERENCE VALUE:
Hemoglobin = 120-140(FEMALE)
Hematocrit = 0.37 - 0.47(FEMALE)
WBC Count = 5 - 10 x 10^9 / L
RBC Count = 4.5 - 5.5 x 10^12 / L
Platelet Count = 150 - 350 x 10^9 / L
Lymphocites = 0.20 - 0.40
Neutrophiles = 0.40 - 0.60

thanks so much!

Was the pain in your knee noticed as worse pain at night first, and after a period started to occur during activities, too?
Do you find some swelling above or below your knee?
Does this pain wake you up some nights?
Have you developed limping walk?

yeah it started while i was sleeping, now it also hurts when i do activities. I sometimes limp. i just don't put my weight on my right leg so it won't hurt. I think its not swollen. i don't feel any lumps. but it hurts that i cannot sleep at night because as i have said it worsens at night. thanks for replying. i hope you could help me. Smile

You are welcome!
This, indeed, can be something more serious.
It must be confirmed or excluded as osteosarcoma, cause that tumor is usually find in teenagers and in 50% of cases is located around the knee.
It begins as a pain experienced at night, and later when doing activities, too.
There may or may not be a history of swelling, depending on the size of the lesion and its location.
It is common for symptoms to be present for weeks or months (occasionally longer) before patients are diagnosed, and often this pain is misdiagnosed as a pain due to sprain, arthritis, or growing.
Please, ask for referral for knee X-ray or even CT scan.
There must be performed extensive imaging techniques to exclude or confirmed this diagnosis.

I don't wanna make you worry, but, it is better to ask for complete evaluation by an orthopedist, than to miss something serious.

Thinking of you!

these symptoms have been around for almost a year now.
does the blood count results have something to do w/ osteosarcoma?
and would be osteosarcoma be diagnosed right away w/ an x-ray?
if a tumor was not found on the x-ray, its not osteosarcoma right?
i'm just nervous. your the only one that gave me their attention and would like to thank you so much for doing so. Smile
i hope you continue to help me.

You are welcome anytime!

X-ray, CT scan and MRI can give enough information for a orthopedist to suspect the lesion as a cancerous one.
Only, with biopsy, removing a small sample of the suspected tumor and checking the sample under microscope, will be determined whether the tumor is malignant and identified which exact type is.
Laboratory work-up tests usually are not used to diagnose osteosarcoma.
Common laboratory tests providing a baseline measurement at diagnosis include blood levels of alkaline phosphatase and LDH.

Best wishes!

I just turned 16 and I am having the EXACT Symptoms
My name is Courtni. I have gone to the doctor three times in a week, but nothing is accomplished. My lab results are normal(tested last Tuesday) and I have lost hours of sleep. We had state testing this week & I have been waking up around 2 in the morning and I can not go back to sleep because it hurts so bad. My pain is around my hip & lower back, all the way down to my knee cap. I don't know what I am supposed to do. My doctors have all joked with me that I sound like an old lady. I play soccer for my school team. We finished in early February and it wasn't bothering me when I played.

Thanks for any help!

I'm 15 and a girl too with the exact same problem only its not only in my legs but in my upper back. i can't get doctors to really take me seriously or even consider it as a possibility to be cancerous. all the research i've done with my symptoms have come up with bone cancer and that some of them show up with young teenagers. tylenol definitely does not help. the only thing is for me is that i sleep all the time. i'm always tired for some reason and i feel weak. the doctor tried to tell me it was patella pain syndrome and arthritis in my back.
if you find out anything let me know. i'm scared too.
