Q: Stem cell treatment for Parkinsons disease
asked by: DoctorQuestion on September 16th, 2008
I’ve seen on the web that there are companies that are selling stem cell treatment, and claiming that it leads to a significant improvement in the condition. Would you recommend this treatment to people with Parkinson's symptoms? Do they work?

Any advice would be really appreciated!

Current medical status: I have had symptoms of Parkinsons disease since 2003. These now affect both hands. I also have problems with balance.
Current medical treatment: Mirapexin

The treatment of Parkinson's disease with stem cells is still in an experimental stage. Experiments on the animals are very promising but there are still many problems to be solved until this treatment becomes available for treating people.
