starting pill on specific date ?
Posted: 06-07-08 14:39pm

I will be getting married in 2 months and am about to start taking birth control pills. I don't want to have my period during the wedding or honeymoon, so counted back the days to figure out when I should start my first pill. Turns out that if I wanted to start this month, I should've taken the first one on Wednesday, 3 days ago. Otherwise I will have to start next month, but this means my body will have less time to adjust to the effects of the pill.

Can I start taking the pills now (start on day 4 pill) just to get my body used to it, and do a full packet of pills starting next month? I don't really care about the protection aspect (we've used condoms for the past 2 years, we can wait another month!), but just don't want to throw my body out of whack when it comes time to take the full pack next month.

Thanks for your help!

IF you started on the FOURTH pill you would not be full protected for the month. This is because you need ALL active pills in order to be protected during your period week.

In BC studies they found that the magic number is at least 21 active BC pills followed by no more than a 7 day period week.

Your period on the pill does not start on the first PERIOD PILL, it can take 3-4 days into the period week for you to get your period. This is something to be knowledgeable about.

Thanks CariFairy!

I was prescribed Loestrin24 which means that I will actually be taking 21 pills if I start taking the 4th day pill today, and only have 4 placebo pills to take at the end of the cycle. Does this still mean that I will have to use additional protection for this first month? It's okay if so, but now I'm curious. My main concern in starting now is that I want to make sure my body has time to adjust to the pills and that I don't get my period/spotting during my wedding/honeymoon.

You are in luck, you will be protected since you would be taking 21 active pills Smile

Because you are on Loestrin you would be taking 21 active pills Smile

It sounds weird, but they found out that magic combo during the very first testing of the pill.
