I may have misinterpreted how to start taking the pill for the first time. I waited until after my period was over(one week later) and started taking it. I think I may have started it wrong. Can I continue to take my remaining pills or start over and take it the first day of my period? Knowing I should have started it on the first day or within /in 24 hours of my period makes me concerned.

You can keep taking them as you are, but your period may be a little off for a while.

Remember to take your pills for an entire week before having sex without a back up method. You need a full week of perfect use before you're protected.

You may be a little off compared to your pills-- only for a month or two though and that's not a problem.

You'll be protected after a week of taking your pills correctly. No mistakes!

No. You aren't protected until you take the pill for an entire week correctly.

Oh you didn't mention that part.

You should be taking your pills as directed. So when you are out of placebo pills you immediately start your active pills.

If you skipped placebo pills and started early, thats not a problem. If you started late, then you were probably not protected.

Ah right I think I get it. lol.

I've taken it correctly ever since i started, which was 2months and 7 days ago. It's just that I misunderstood and started my very first packet a day after my period. I hope that's okay.

You are protected when you've been taking your pills for an entire week without missing any.

Then, assuming you've been taking your pills correctly and starting on time, you'd be protected through your periods and even at the start of a new pack.

It doesn't really matter when you start your first pack, just that you wait that 7 days and take the pills correctly after that.

I have just started my period today and was planning to start taking the pill today too for the first time. But I;m on holiday so I don't have it with me. Can I start taking the first ones in 2 weeks time when I get back even though I will no longer have my period? And if so, will this make me get an extra period for month??

I have to same issue. This is my first time taking the pill. My doctor gave me the okay to take it on a sunday two weeks after my last period. I was told me periods might be a bit off for about 3 months. But here is my question, how will they be "off" will they be late, skipped, light? I have no idea what to expect.

Dear 12331
Everyone is different on how your body responds to the hormones and becoming "regular". Note that "regular" for everyone is different. Some people on BC have VERY regular (exactly on the same number of days into the inactive pills) some people are lighter and some are still heavier. You are right in thinking you may be late or skipper. Probably not any lighter than normally on the pill. After about 3 months you will be regular, which means you''ll have your period during the inactive pills (aka blanks) which are the 4th weeks of pills. Just give it a little time and you''ll know what is happening, but don''t be surprised if you are a little later or even if you skip a period.

period came while on active pills--am I protected?
I am on loestrin 24 for a few months now. My period came about a week early while i was on the active pills. When my period was done, I was on the inactive pills. My husband and I had sex all weekend after my period was over and I was still on the inactive pills. Am I am protected. It wasn''t till days later that I was due to start the new pack. I have been feeling very sick, tired, no appetite and cramping. Could I be pregnant?
