I went with my mom to the dermatologist for her checkup. I also had a condition and have used the cream she uses for her rash. I showed the dermatologist the infected area (my butt, how embarrassing), and he told me I had a staph infection and gave me prescription for antibiotics. I didn't know a thing about this staph infection until I got home and researched it online. Now I'm paranoid that I may have the MRSA! I do not have any health insurance. It was my first time visiting any kind of a doctor in years as well. I had the rash and swelling of the area on my butt for like 2 years. It never seemed to bother me, and I never felt any pain until recently when one of the boil looking infections grew to abnormal size, stopping me from sitting due to the excruciating pain. I also found out that my underwear is many times covered by the pus from the boil. Is there a way to find out what kind of staph infection it is? I'm taking the antibiotics the dermatologist gave me today called smz/tmp but I'm really afraid that this can become a lot worse.

It can, to be sure you must have a culture. Go to your local emergency room. Many hospitals have an indigent care program. I am sure you have seen the pics of MRSA, if yours looks similar considering your description it is likely it is. I can not epmhasize the importance of actually seeing the culture results and having them explained to you.
