I am a 46 year old who has had stage 4 prostate cancer for 2 years now..when diagnosed i had a psa of 131 and metatisis to pelvic and pubic bones.

since, i have had a prostectomy with 1 lymph node diseased..Also had lupron and cassadex..when my psa leveled out i went to ketoconazole and lukine shots...When it leveld out again i added revlomid..My psa dropped to its low of .056 last month nearly 2 years after diagnosis..
My bone scans had cleared up with no evidence of disease but there was some activity in my bladder and rectum area.

was supposed to do pelvic radiation using external beam radiation starting tommorow ..

But my psa today was done it had jumped to 1.93 in just 6 weeks. i had the flu for 2 weeks and this may have effected my treatment, who knows.

I have 2 questions:
1] should i go ahead with my radiation treatments as planned dispite the big jump in psa ??? i have no bone pain at all and still lift weights
2] would the radiation to the pelvic area take care of any cancer on my bladder wall or urethra or wouls this require a focused radiation

thanks
bob

Question for Bob
Bob,

I am glad to hear that you are having success with fighting your battle with stage IV prostrate cancer and I wish you much success in the future as well.

My father is in a similar situation and I am very distressed to hear that his prostrate cancer has metastasized and spread to the bones. The doctors tried Zometa on him, but it did not work and the psa level did not drop. Much to my horror, last week they told us that there was nothing else they could do and took him off all medication and just gave him pain medication for the severe bone pain.
They have already tried chemo of course and the hormonal treatment.

I was wondering if you would be kind enough to share in more detail your treatment regimen and I can share that with his oncologist. I hope whatever worked for you will also help my father. Look forward to hearing from you .

God Bless.

Tara
