Q: Stabbing Spasms

That's what I've named this strange stabbing sensation I've been getting for the past week.
They started October 4th and have been off and on since.
I feel like I'm being stabbed, it's intense and painful.
These sensations take place in my wrists, arms, chest, heart aread, ribcage, hip, and even occasionaly legs, thighs, and ankles.
I'm not sure what to do about them, I've been reduced to tears and nearly paralized with pain because of them and they won't let me sleep.
I'm tired, in pain, and can't focus on schoolwork because of the lack of sleep due to the pain.
If anyone can help me with this, from any clue why it's happening to how to make them stuff, it would be very appreciated.

Hi Kiara,

Can you describe these pains a little better, please? Are the pains originating from the muscles or the nerves? When do they occur? Out of the blue or regularly? Are you able to sleep or are you woken up?

Also --- do you have a family doctor that you can see?

I do have a doctor I can go see but I dislike doctors and would prefer not to go if possible. Especially if I don't have any idea what may be causing it.
They occur off and on, at random times. There is no warning, I could be standing talking to my friends and all of a sudden I'm in unbearable pain. Though they've been pretty regular since October 4th. Though they're not always as bad as other times. Sometimes it just feels like I got stabbed with a 'needle', whereas other times it feels like a sharpered 'sword'.
I can fall asleep, I can even stay asleep, but I don't actually sleep. The pain keeps me from actually sleeping, it's more like a constant doze.
As for where it occurs I couldn't say. It feels like someone is puncturing my skin and digging all the way down to the bone, then swiveling the instrument inside. It's not a bone pain either. It just feels like someone is driving something through my body.
Though if I had to specify it feels more nerve related than muscle.

I hear you about the doctors --- but sometimes they are our best allies. I suggest that you see a family doctor first...and take a log of ALL the times that these pains occur, what they feel like, where they are and for how long they last. This can really help with a diagnosis. So, keep a diary. Then, s/he might refer you to a neurologist or have the necessary diagnostic exams for you.

Good luck!

Muscular stabbing pains
I have had these pains since I was a little girl (I am now 57 years old). No one has a clue what they are. They come whenever they feel like, are totally debilitating, attack thighs or upper arms or the bum muscle. They have me jerking around like a puppet ... and then they go without a trace, sometimes for months, other times for only a few days. Taking aspirin helps a bit. And iron supplements also seem to help a bit. But no doctor has ever been able to tell me what's wrong.

i have the same pains is it like your bones are rubbing off each other. Alo do you get twinges as well and tingling sensations. I have been told its due to anxiety disorder could it be anything to do with that. I have trouble believing doctors though, but i have had an ecg and they,ve found nothing wrong although everytime i get these pains i cant help thinking that it is something serious. Does your pain come on all of a sudden and make you sweat or makes your breath go. I just want to try an find someone with the same thing im scared that im the only 1 with this problem.

My pains do come all of a sudden. No obvious cause. And boy do they take my breath away. But it isn't like bones rubbing together. More like a knife being pushed into muscle and then twisted in there. A few moments of peace, then I'm stabbed again. Skin above the point can remain sensitive for days after the stabbing has stopped. But, like I said, I've had it for half a century now and nothing worse has happened so far ... touch wood Smile
