My gp refered me to a pdoc after we talked about my constant mood shifts. My first appointment is tomorrow, and I am just wondering what happens at the initial visit. I am thinking, how is he going ot know if I am bp in just one visit. On the other hand, I don't want to leave with him just telling me to keep a mood journal and come back next month. Any insight would be great. Thanks in advance.

Normally your first appointment should be an examination. The doc should sit with you for an hour or so, while you spill all your symptoms and worries. He'll then suggest therapy, and start you on meds that he feels with help. THis is where it becomes a long and tiring journey. The meds will sometimes work right away, and sometimes there's a need for a change. But, keep in mind your life will be improved, because the meds dilemma is better than your current symptoms.

First appointment is just an overview to get an oidea of who you are and what you are going to. You may get a quick questionaire, I know I did.

The key is to keep up with your therapy sessions as it may take more then one visit to come to a diagnosis.

Mental health is a trial and error area of health. Unfortunately there is no blood test we can do to get a diagnosis.
