Hi, I am so happy to have found this forum. I have a diagnosis of squamous cell cancer on my hand below my thumb. Surgery is Oct 1. I had a Bowens diagnosis on my wrist and had surgery 2 years ago. Now I am going through Carac treatment on my hands, lower arms and lower legs. I had Efudex 5 twice before. My question is...I have a burning sensation and lump under the skin at the base of my middle finger. It does not hurt to touch but burns intermintently. I have several AKs in the area. Could that pain be related to a skin cancer? Even if it is under the skin? Thanks for your help.

Hi sweetpea,

The National Library of Medicine has an excellent resource on skin cancer . The material I've seen tells you how to complete a skin exam ... which is above the surface. I'd suggest that you ask your oncologist about this new symptom of burning pain and sensation. It's possible that, given the location, the pain is related to the joints. But ask your oncologist and show her/him the area to follow up.
