For the last week, I have been noticing spotting. I have also been having very dull cramping in my lower abdomen. It is not like my normal period. The spotting is either rusty colored or light-ish pink. My period is only a couple days late. I know this could be normal, but my periods are always extremely regular, and I have been on the same birth control for over a year. Could this spotting be an early sign of pregnancy?

Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum.
You can experience spotting few days before your actual period starts due to hormonal changes. There can also be chances of contraceptive failure. The symptom of spotting, delayed period, could also be few of the early symptoms suggestive of pregnancy. Look out for development of any new symptoms suggestive of pregnancy if you suspect chances of pregnancy. Wait and watch for your periods. If you do not get periods within 10 days of expected period dates, or if you get abnormal periods, or if you develop any new symptoms, or if you suspect chances of pregnancy, you should consider visiting your doctor/gynecologist for thorough examination (to confirm pregnancy related changes/signs in body) and blood/serum HCG level test (to confirm/rule out pregnancy accurately). Be in regular monitoring and follow-up with your treating doctor/gynecologist and report any new/abnormal symptoms immediately. Drink plenty of water. Take adequate rest. Maintain healthy diet.
Take care.
