Chances are your sports drink is Gatorade
or Powerade or something of that nature
right? This is to be used as a post
workout drink because of it high carb
content. Your body breaks down and uses
sugars and glycogen storage. It is
imperative that it is replenished and a
supplement with simple sugars is perfect
such as the mentioned drinks above.
In terms of boosting stamina you may want
to take an endurance drink with amino
acids and a good carb to protein ratio
such as Accelerade which some of my
triathlon people I train recommend because
of its 4:1 ratio of carbs to protein, and
it tastes good as well! This drink will do
a few things that Gatorade can't. When
perfoming prolonged exercise, the body
breaks down muscle to meet energy needs.
Consuming a carbohydrate-protein sports
drink during exercise can minimize muscle
breakdown and may aid in supporting muscle
synthesis in addition to improving protein
balance.
While these drinks can help one has to
remember nothing beats water. Our muscles
are 70-80% H20 and our brains and pretty
much entire body are mad eof 70%+ water,
so feed it what it really wants. Nothing
beats water and carb loading(can go over
that if you would like too) for stamina!
Let me know if that helps at all.

To the original poster, there is no way to
define how much more stamina increase a
sports drink will provide for you. Every
person is different, and it is even
questionable if such a drink can provide
stamina.
As the above poster described in his first
paragraph, the point of a sports drink is
to replenish and provide water and
electrolytes that you may have lost during
working out (such as sweating). More then
just carbohydrates though, the sports
drink attempt to supply you with
electrolytes such as potassium and sodium,
which your body cells need to maintain
homeostasis.
DPGfitness, just be careful if you had
good intentions to help this client, I
apologize in advance if you did. But your
second paragraph can be looked upon as
advertisement, which is not allowed in our
forum. I do not mean to offend, it merely
looked like a way to degrade Gatorade and
promote Accelerade.

Thats because Accerlerade is different
than Gatorade. Accelerade is a pre workout
carb drink while gatorade is a post
workout carb drink. That is why it is
better for stamina. No one is pushing
companies in this forum I am here to
provide expertise in nutrition and fitness
and if it means recommendeing products
then i will do that, otherwise this forum
will serve as a disservice to its members
and information will not be fully given. I
am just a personal trainer and
nutritionist I have no sponsors or
anything just here to help and get the
rigth info out is all. I hope you
understand.

Yea sorry about that man, I just wanted to
let you know in case you didn't know about
the advertisement rules.
From your posts, I did have a feeling you
were at least a personal trainer or
something of the sort. It's good to have
such accurate knowledge around =P
What sort of PT certification do you have?
How long did it take you to become a
Nutritionist?
BTW, whether or not Accelerade works, I
was curious when you mentioned that it was
a PRE work out drink. From my knowledge,
if your body receives a high amount of
carbs, you will get an insulin spike in
effect, reducing your energy levels by the
time you are ready for a work out. So does
this drink specifically have a low amount
of carbs that won't cause this, or what?

Insulin spike occurs only due to the
sugars not just carbs. Carbs can be simple
or complex. I also know that carbing up
before working out for 90+ minutes is a
must. less than 60 minutes it is not
needed. Because Accerlerade has protein
unlike gatorade I woiuld rather use that
as a PRE than a POST. I would yuse both
products personally.
