i have a history of depression. i've been having times of feeling sad lately. this morning i woke up and tears came rolling out of my eyes. sometimes this happens when i am having no negative thought - it surprises me. i am past menopause and am not taking any hormones. is this typical of depression?

I don't know, but since I experienced the same during a deep depression, I'd say yes.
In my case it just stopped suddenly for no real reason.

For many, this is the hardest time of the year to get past...Christmas is memories...Some good and some bad...Each bring thoughts to mind of yesterday...Yesterday is their past...Now add to this "the world we live in" and this doesn't always add up to a "pocketful of dreams"...Saying this, I am not sure if it is depression or this time of the year....If you think hormones would help, talk to your doctor about it...If you think it is this time of the year, then do what I am doing...Wait for 2010 to ring in... Smile ....Take care...

thank you for the replies. i think it is depression. i have just started some serious work in therapy. had not been in therapy for many years. it stirred up the old demons for sure. i just thought the spontaneous tears thing was rather amazing. they have stopped. i'll see if after the next session they come back.

thanks all
