has anyone had spinal injections for L5/s1 disc prolapse.? i am hoping for an appointment in next few weeks and want to discuss with pain management as regards having an injection to let me get off fentanyl.
i want to be in control instead of the fentanyl controlling me as you have to work your everyday life around it and the side affects.
as anyone on this medication knows if its not constipation its feeling sick or just wanting to sleep.
i have been grateful for what pain relief i have been given with fentanyl but there are days im still in so much pain i wonder why i bother abusing my body with this strong medication
if you feel down the medication gets the blame.
has also anyone ever asked there doctor why they only treat the physical side of this problem when it affects so many mentally/
i have read so many posts and like myself the word depression is very common with back complaints.
i mentioned it too my pain management doctor and when i told him how i was feeling mentally as well as physically his golden reply was, "need to get you off the patches" hey ho the medication got the blame..good job we have sense of humour and this site to lean on . hurray for e.health forum.

Have you tried a TENS unit? It is not medication...

Electrical impulses are directed to the place / places that you feel pain...move electrodes as you see fit.

It tricks you brain to not feel pain in that area.

My back will act up every now and then and I will use it and it works anywhere from days to months...

Injections over time can cause bone loss and after awhile are no longer effective.

hi and good morning from uk. thanks for reply tried tens through physiotherapy on the large machine for 6 wks and then bought my own one.
both physiotherapy and tens never helped.
i went down a crazy and long road before being prescribed fentanyl.
i waited nearly 10 months for mri scan and another 3 months for results.
physiotherapy ended up with me using a cane of which i still use to get around and help me walk. waited a further 6 months to get on pain management programme and required another emergency mri last yr as my legs collapsed and ended up in wheelchair for six weeks. its a long story of which i must tell on this marvelous site sometime. thanks for your info on spinal injections.
