I'm in my fourth year of sciatica and lower back pain, and have tried all the obvious treatments....physical therapy, acupuncture, cortisone shots, massage, and chiropractor visits. I am now considering a 6 week course of treatment on a mechanical spinal decompression machine. The chiropractor assures me, that with my condition, I have an 80-90% chance of pain relief. Has anyone had any experience with these treatments? The treatments are not covered by insurance and I would be willing to pay out of pocket if I thought they really worked. (My primary care feels they can't hurt and might help, but he is skeptical,as I am.) I had a recent MRI and a surgical consult, and am not a surgical candidate. What else is left?

For the cost of only 1 machine visit - why not get an inversion table? You only need -30 degrees for effective decompression.
Look into muscle balance therapy, core distortion release, mediation, Feldenkrais Method, Alexander technique, and cranial sacral release. Most pain is due to ongoing aberrant muscular activity.
