Hi, my husbands lower back has been hurting really bad for the past couple of weeks. Today it has gotten so bad that he could barely move at all, and we tried everything to relieve the pain. He took pain medications but they didnt affect him at all, I even gave him a lower back massage [I looked up on how to safly do this cause I heard you cant push on the spine at all only feather like strokes] that actually helped for a few hours and he went to sleep...the next morning the pain was back. He cant do anything without it hurting. [ex. sitting down, walking ect. ect] I am starting to get very concerned. He said that when you put pressure on it...it feels better but I am afraid that will damage it even more. He is 21 years old so I don't think it could have to do anything with age. But he does smoke cigarettes. He said that its constant pain, and it a sharp like main. Its right above it butt and below his ribs. And the pain is on the sides in the muscles areas as well.

Can you help me?

hello i would advise your husband to seek medical help.

Did he lift something heavy or was it sudden onset of pain?

I have disc problem and sounds like your husband may have developed one too.?

Does he experience any pins or needles, numbness, pain radiating down one or both legs and into big toe?

We can all have pain and sorry for asking questions but there are so many ways to describe how the pain manifests itself, eg: shooting pain/stabbing pain/spasm?

Im not medical just someone who suffers chronic back pain for last three years and what to look for with your husband.
If he is experiencing any of these symptoms he best get checked out by dotor so he can get help.
