Q: spiking high blood sugar levels

An odd thing happened to me today. I have been hypoglycemic for years (I am 52, female) and I woke up this morning feeling very weak and totally out of sorts. Around noon I felt worse, very weak and my legs burned and hurt. I had to lay down and thought my blood sugar must have been extremely low to feel so bad. But, upon checking it I found it was 289! I had not eaten anything different - in fact had a salad and diet soda for lunch about 1 hour before the spike.
It went from 289 to 240 in about 15 minutes. It continued to slowly lower and about 2 hours later it was 79.

Has anyone ever heard of this happening? I have never felt so sick and weak. Thank you - S.

Have you been eating right? It sounds like you probably were put on an incorrect diet and unless you get a hold of it it's going to turn into diabetes. Those readings are diabetic. What have you been eating?

This has never happened before and I was diagnosed with hypo over 30 years ago.
I didn't eat anything different yesterday before my blood sugar spiked that's why I was confused. Today I seem to have slight flu symptoms - I wonder if it is related?
Thank you.

Yes, those flu-like symptoms are a typical sign of a sugar problem. What are you eating? Give me a typical run-down of your diet.
