Q: Spermatozoids causing pregnancy
asked by: DoctorQuestion on June 6th, 2009
My b/f and I have been dating for 4 months, and started having sex after 1. For the 1st few times we were using condoms until I went on birth control. After that we used both at all times, but the birth control was taking a toll on my body so I decided to stop using it. The begining of May, we had sex unprotected, but he didn't cum at all. I am sort of worried about the pre-cum though, since we never used protection. I thought I had my period on the 30th, but instead of normal cramps for warning, I only felt a slight pain on my left side. The period itself only lasted 4 days and nothing really came out but clumps and I was spotting brown. I've read that it could be implantational bleeding, but I don't think I could get pregnant from pre-cum. Also, thinking that was my period, we had sex the day right after it ended, and we didn't use any protection. He came inside of me twice.

So what should I do? Besides the obvious test in 2 weeks, I am very scared and have no idea what to do.

Pre-ejaculation fluid is produced by the bulbourethral glands and might contain a very small number of spermatozoids. The spermatozoids in the pre-ejaculation fluid might be used for conception. This is more likely if there was recent ejaculation and there are spermatozoids left in the canals from the previous ejaculation.

According to the data you provided (possible pre-ejaucaltion fluid emission in the vagina), you might be experiencing pregnancy. However, if the bleeding you experienced after was a real menstrual period then pregnancy might be ruled out.

You might want to use home pregnancy tests to check for pregnancy. Please note that false positive and false negative results might occur and several home pregnancy tests might be needed.

A visit to your gynecologist is also recommended. He would perform a physical examination, and possibly an ultrasound scan. Hormonal laboratory tests might also be needed to show whether there is an elevation of certain hormones that are expected to be elevated in pregnancy.
