Q: Spasms in arm

When I am relaxing (just before sleep, watching a movie, etc) I get very violent spasms in my left arm (like mini seizures), and sometimes they also affect my neck so that my entire left size will suddenly jerk. I am not sleeping when this occurs, and sometimes I am not even trying to sleep--just being still. I have even punched myself in the face doing this. I also know what myoclonic jerk feels like and this is not it. I would really like to know if this is serious, and if there is any treatment.

Wow. I am suffering from the same exact thing and I have no idea what is going on. Just like you, this only happens to me when I am relaxed. Watching TV, long car ride, right before bed. But my husband says that my left arm does not fly up when I am sleeping. Have you gotten this checked out at all? This has been going on for about 2 years now. I notice that if I have a stressful day then my spasms are much more violent.
