Q: sore throat and HIV chances ?

Hi all. Thanks for taking the time to read my first post.

I am a 24yr UK male. I currently live in Shenzhen, China. I arrived here 3 months ago and during my first week went out drinking. I took a girl home and had unprotected sex several times. The following day she asked for cash. I now know that she is working as a prostitute. Sex workers in this city have a relatively high rate of sexually transmitted infections.

Since then I have had a non-stop sore throat with swelling around the adam's apple (right hand side of it). There is also what seems to be a small red lump at the back of my throat. It is uncomfortable to swallow unless I first clear my throat and my sinuses seem very dry/not working. I smoke and drink heavily and I have previously lived in a very polluted environment for a year.

I will go for a test this week but I would really appreciate any thoughts on this.

Thank you.

hey
Right well first of all please remember to always use a condom. Also please keep in mind that a sore throat doesn't mean HIV, there are a lot of other STD's out there, such a mono, so get tested for those too. My suggestion is get tested for all STD'S including HIV and try not to worry too much. If you can find that girl again ask her to get tested as well. I'm not sure how the law works in China but if she knew she had HIV and had sex with you without telling you then I know thats against the law.

Thanks for the reply. I have been in contact with her and told her that I will take the tests first (I'm actually going to Hong Kong to get it done as I could be deported from China and banned from return if positive).

I am also going to have my throat checked out. I'm hoping it is a simple bacterial/viral infection and not caused by an underlying HIV infection or cancer....

Thanks again
