Q: Sometimes wake feeling breathless

As an anxiety/panic suffer, maybe my problem is a noctural panic attack...

3 or 4 times a month I will wake usually at the same time midnight feeling like I am not getting enough oxygen. I just bear with it and after awhile the feeling goes away and I go back to sleep.

Anyone ever heard of such a thing? Can't figure out what is the cause.

Can't be sleep apnea since when it does occasionally happen, it only happens the one time in the night and no more.

Thanks

I experience the same type of thing about once per week.
It is rather disturbing. I also have controlled (by medication) panic disorder. However, I know I snore and believe this could be from apnea. I have even thought about going to a sleep clinic to make sure. Good luck to both of us.

Yes, I have it too! I've had it for over 20 years. I wake up and feel like I'm dieing and I feel like I'm fighting between life and death and like I can't breath and my chest hurts and my lungs hurt and it's like I feel like if I take a breath at all, that my lung will tear, it's so wierd. After I wake up it takes me a few minutes for this all to go away. What can this be? Dede
