Hello, i have had panic and anxiety attacks for a while now and sometimes it seems as if there is something in my throat... i have read many posts here about it but find nothing that is the same.. it feels as if something is crawling up and down my throat. Needless to say it scares me half to death because i am also suffering from arachnophobia. Swallowing is also scary because it feels like i swallow whatever is in there but it crawls right back up. The main reason im scared is im afraid a bug might crawl out of my mouth... I hope i dont sound crazy Embarassed

Please don't worry ...
I've had anxiety and depression I think since I was quite young, I still have it and I'm older then you I'm sure, it is a curse sometimes
I think why me?...but one can work through it and gain control with help.
However, if you understand your body, and have someone like a good therapist to help you overcome your anxiety/phobia by understanding and thinking through what is going on at the time you are panicky or what it is troubling you it will really help, medications too take the edge off as much is simply biochemical...too much or not enough of certain brain chemicals may cause one think thoughts that scare them or cause distress.
I'm a nurse and this is factual for many people meds do help but therapy then see where it goes from there/
Ok about this feeling in your throat, take a deep belly breath slow easy--look up 'breathing to help anxiety' google something like that you will see a lot, it helps for times like now...read what it says.
Now..you don't have bugs in your throat nor blood gushing from a hole in your throat into the lungs, if you did you would be in shock or near shock
it is your mind playing tricks on your body.
Remember this! keep saying positive things like
"I'm going to be ok this is only a feeling, and my mind is blowing out of proportion".
Your have an anxiety problem right now it's very clear..and it is common and there is hope.
Get help I'd hate to see this feeling go on...it's only a feeling we blow up...
when other people simply blow it off if they get an odd sensation.
You are highly sensitive and many people like this are bright and creative and have *very* good imaginations.
Please ....oh please believe this
Hope this feeling is gone by now Smile
Please let me know ok?

M.

gone
It is gone, and i always know there is nothing there it just seems to happen... I have a VERY active imagination... and whenever i think of the crawling going down into my stomach it does... But i have medication for it now, i picked it up today... Ativan and fluoxitine(which i have been taking prior to this also)... the ativans are .5mg and it took 3 to calm myself and it calmed me for an hour but it came back afterwards... im gonna take 1 more then try to get a new prescription... does anyone have any suggestions?

P.S. I had the same problem with clonazipam... it didnt really calm me down unless i took a lot of it... but then it would come back...

P.P.S. Thank you very much btw... the gushing of blood is probably the scariest because i can taste it as well. When i tilt my head forward, nothing comes out of my throat and i never spit the blood out... I think i just hallucinate when i have panic attacks.
