I got an inguinal hernia repair on the 22nd of December. Had stitches on until the 5th of Jan. Friday night I felt my wound (healing well, now its just a red line to be honest) and I felt something ahrd, like a piece of plastic/metal/other hard material. I could feel two ends, so I assumed this hard material is 3cm. If I stand in a certain position, or perhaps lie down flat, you can see where the hard 'piece' ends, and the lump goes down (there's a small lump now, which I assume is normal due to the wound healing.)

My surgeon most probably, if not certainly, used mesh, but whats this hard piece Im feeling? It causes no pain, I don't really notice it, but should I be worried?

Edit: It jsut occured to me, but perhaps this is a bone? On the opposite side (my left) I can no doubt feel bones if I push hard, and perhaps the bone has risen due to the wound placement? But it feels very thin...

Hi

Sorry to hear you are feeling this. It sounds like the mesh or perhaps scar tissue. Many of us who have/had mesh implanted in us feel this same thing.
Please find out what type of mesh was used to repair your hernia.

I would also consult with the surgeon.
Keep us posted.

I can't contact his office till Monday but on his site he says he uses polypropylene mesh.

And what exactly is a scar tissue?
