I start with sneezing ALOT the first day -day1/2.. then a very uncomfortable itchy throat(not sore) that can sometimes wake me up from a deep sleep. Finally,I get chest congestion so bad that can last weeks. The cough is dry for at least the first week until it loosens up the next week.I've had this cycle for years now. I dont feel like its a normal cold with a snotty nose. I get this way at least twice every year. What can I do? And why is the congestion so dang bad? VERY thick mucus.

Hello,

Welcome to ehealthforum

According to the symptoms you have explained it seems like an allergic reaction. It can also be due to sinusitis or changing climate.
Use saline nasal drops three hourly.
Take steam inhalation 3 to 4 times a day as it will clear nose and congestion.
Avoid cold food items.
Take Vitamin C supplementation.
Kindly visit an ENT specialist for a detailed examination and treatment.

Hope it helps

Take Care!
