i dont know...i just stopped. I was a smoker and the day I found out was they day I chose to stop. I never had one cig my entire pregnancy. for me I just thought of my baby and never had a hard time with it, Never had cravings either. I wish I could give you my experience.

Try reading a book called "The Easy Way to Stop Smoking" by Alan Carr. My hubby stopped after reading this and he was a pack and half smoker. After the book he just stopped. Hasnt picked up since...its been a year. Now I am smoking again. I picked it back up after my son was born.

Try that book see if it works

You have the choice-I say choose the Baby!
Babies born to smokers are underweight and usually lower apgar scores. Asthma and other respitory problems, heart and lung damage...just to name a few reasons to NOT SMOKE. You want a healthy baby, then give that baby a chance. Take control over your own life and choose that baby over cigarettes!

yes...i didnt want to sound harsh in my reply but thats what I did. I chose the baby. Just have faith that the strength to stop in inside yourself. and within your child. What does your partner say? DOes he support you?

Daniel decided on his own to quit. He bagan reading the book before we found out we were pregnant. I think me being pregnant helped him along. But he made the choice for himself, I think this had a lot to do with me being able to stop, I had support. But like I said it was black and white for me.

Healthy strong baby or not

Ok so this lady feels bad enough as it is about smoking she just doesnt have the will power just as i dont i have just posted on here and i pray i dont have any replys like the one's above.I'm happy that you found it so easy you where very lucky.I dont think trying to say she doesnt care enough is anyway to incourage her to quit.Quiting smoking is the hardest thing i will ever do but i am determined to do this time!

I agree, she knows she needs to quite and not one person has possted something helpful or supportive. My suggestion is to cut down slowly, that is what I have done, I have a very addictive nature and have gone from a pack a day to 3 or 4 a day, in 2weeks time i will be in my second trimester and my goal is to have quite completly by then.
Most of the damage from smoking is done to the baby in late pregancy.
Good Luck, let me know how you go!

Quitting smoking is strange, its kinda easy to go with out. the cravings arent really the hard thing to deal with for me its the habit.

nicotine patches helped me in the past but i did start smoking again and U CANT USE NICOTINE PATCHES WHILE PREGNANT!
i found it quite easy quitting with the patches, i had the 24 hour patches. they did cause nightmares.

1.firstly before quitting change your routine. like if u smoke first thing in the morning with coffee- stay inside and drink the coffee instead of going out 4 smoke straight away.
2.be fully awake before u get out of bed
3. start an excercise routine
4. keep occupied like spring cleaning
5. after a meal treat yourself to an after dinner mint or something to satisfy you.
6. if u feel the need to suck have a big fruit & yogurt smoothy or a chocolate thick shake.
doing all these things helped me to quit but i do still smoke now, bad me!

also think of how much money you can save!

Smoking in Pregnancy:
i smoked about a pack a day with my first pregnancy.
my baby was healthy 3.3kg had a good apgar score-9, and has no problems so far. thank god!
SMOKING can cause low birth weight which is a major cause for babys needing to be in intensive care and increases the risk of still born. i do believe smoking in pregnancy is a big risk to the baby as a friend of a friend smoked, was overweight and had a very under weight baby a few weeks ago that was in intensive care but is doing ok now.

i know this is an old post but i hope to help anyone!

i am pregnant now and i will try to quit tomorrow following the advice i just gave i hope i can do it without the nicotine patches this time. to have a healthy baby is very important! i dont know if because my last baby was healthy and a good weight while i smoked, that this 1 will be as well. so quit day tomorrow!
GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!
