smell of blood after stillbirth Posted: 05-22-08 13:42pm
Last week my husband and I gave birth to a
beautiful baby boy, unfortunately we lost
him. A week later my blood has a horrible
smell. The saying is " smells like
something crawed up.....well you know the
rest. I don't know what to do, Is this
normal with a still birth because he was
already gone in my womb before i went into
labor or is this something i should be
concerned with. I know it is usual for
the blood to have a bad smell due to the
fact that it has been in there for so
long, but mine has a distinct smell to it,
like makes me sick to my stomach. Should
i be concerned????

I'm very sorry for your loss.
It sounds to me like you could have gotten
some sort of infection- with all the
changes in the vaginal area during
pregnancy and birth, and then the actual
process of birthing, it's easy for
bacteria to get in there and cause an
infection.
I'd get it checked out.

Thank you both.
Well i went to the doctor, Who i now have
a law suit against due to...lets just say
a bunch of bs with the whole pregnancy,
and they didnt even check me out they just
gave me an antibiotic and sent me away.
So basically I have the antibiotics to
take but i get yeast infections when i
take antibiotics, so not only am i scared
to get a yeast infection on top of the
open wounds, I'm not even sure what the
problem is to even be taking antibiotics
so should i just go ahead and take them
just to be safe?

I would take them just because it really
does sound like a bacterial infection.
Take the antibiotics like they said.
If you get a yeast infection, you can
always deal with that later. Taking some
probiotics will help. A yeast infection is
annoying, but the bacterial infection is
more dangerous because it could spread.
