Q: Small vaginas and their causes
asked by: DoctorQuestion on September 2nd, 2008
I've had problems with my vagina being too small to put tampons in and just recently I couldn't have sexual intercourse because my vagina was just too tight or small, so what could be the problem?

There are several possibilities in your case:
1.Your vaginal opening is really too small or blocked (strong hymen, presence of a tumor or scar) which are rare conditions and require surgical intervention;
2.Your partner's penis is too big and can't enter. This is not very likely because normally the vagina is a very elastic organ and can adapt to any penis size;
3.You were not sexually excited enough so your vagina stayed dry. Your vaginal muscles may also have remained tight because you were not psychically relaxed. It is not easy for the penis to penetrate in a dry and tight vagina.
4.You might have vaginism. Vaginism is a condition where muscles at the vaginal opening make such strong contractions (spasms) that they don't allow penetration. Vaginism is usually due to severe anxiety.
5.Your partner has erectile dysfunction so his erection is not strong enough to penetrate the vagina.

You should consult a gynecologist about your problem.
