I'm a 53 yr old male, 5'11", and about 330# (yes very overweight). I have always had a rather small penis which is compounded by the fact that I'm also a big guy. I'm lucky to have an inch or a bit more showing, and most of the time it is "recessed" into my body to make it appear that there is no penis.

My sex life is fine, my wife is happy, and orgasms fine. She actually enjoys the smaller size. In an aroused state it's not huge, but sufficient. About 4", but with decent girth.

The problem is, that this has always kept me from getting needed medical exams because of embarrasement.

A week ago I was having a regular checkup in which the Dr. ran a PSA test that came back as 8.42. The last PSA test I had done was about 14 months ago and I don't remember the reading, but it was low enough to not raise any concerns.

I actually had my followup appt. today and it was cancelled due to a power outage at the Dr's. office. I realize he's probably going to do a DRE, and had accepted that fact.

To the point of the post. I'm just totally embarrased by "my size". I realize that in a worst case scenario I could be facing the prospect of dozens of Dr's. and nurses seeing my "manhood" for various tests and possibly even surgery in the next month or so.

I'm just wondering what others have to say about such a dilemma. Others who have been in the same situation? Nurses, and how they react? HELP!!!

OllieJr,

Don't be embarrassed, the penis comes in all shapes and sizes. And, the size you have is not really all that uncommon. And, as long as it works for urination and sexual intercourse, that is about all that is needed.

Some men have a small penis when it is flacid, but it becomes much larger with an erection, as in your case. Some men have a large flacid penis, but it doesn't get any bigger with erection, it just stands up. So, again, as long as your wife and you are happy, that is all that counts.

As to the exam, you should not have to parade around in front of several people, naked. Usually, the physician, and maybe a nurse for assistance, is all that is in the room. If you happen to go to a teaching program, then you may have several exams by the different levels of physicians in training. But, usually when an uncomfortable procedure is involved, it is only done once. The other physicians are told what that physician found. On very rare occasions, the procedure may be repeated by the attending physician, just to make sure it was properly done by the resident.

But, if you see a physician in private practice, it is usually just the doctor.

And, the nurses and other ancillary staff are professionals and will act accordingly. If, at anytime, you feel embarrassed by what a nurse or tech does or says, say something to the physician or office manager. That kind of behavior is not tolerated.

If you prefer to be covered up as much as possible, ask the nurse for a towel or sheet to cover yourself. Your wishes can usually be accommodated.

Again, as long as you and your wife are happy with your size, that's all that matters. Try not to be embarrassed. The health care providers have seen all shapes and sizes. And, they should act like the professionals they are. In some urology practices, the nurses are male, as they commonly are in the OR.

Good luck. Hope everything turns out okay.

Good advice Gaelic!

Ollie Jr, you shouldnt worry a bit. As long as the wife is happy, that's all that matters.

I would, however, strongly suggest that you start exercising and try to get some of that weight off. You can start by walking and setting goals for yourself and increasing your goals each week. Losing weight will help you in so many ways, including the sex department.
Several years ago I lost 56 pounds, and my wife told me one day my penis looked larger!! I know for certain it has made the sex better. I can now get all of my penis in her, and she likes that!
