I have a bump in my pubic area, pretty much on my waist line under my gut. I'm having severe shoulder, back, and chest pain (sometimes the pain spreads to my legs or arms) I am also having constant headaches almost like migraine headaches. I went to the ER 2 days ago and a doctor told me I need to see a GI and it could be either a stomach ulcer or hiatal hernia. I also have asthma, they took an EKG and chest X-Ray and said it all looked fine. They prescribed me prontontix for the pain, it has helped a little but my pain is still pretty severe and I just recently realized a small bump in pubic region and between the buttocks (someone told me it could be lyme disease). I squeezed it a little and some oil and a little blood came out. Could this be from a hernia?

It is not possible, unfortunately, for me to provide a specific diagnosis for patients over the Internet. A "bump" in your pubic area could be many things, from a skin lesion of one type or another, to a hernia. Only a direct physical examination by a physcian can allow for a specific diagnosis of this lump.

The lesion that you describe between your butt cheeks is more likely to be an inflammatory lesion, such as a pilonidal cyst or skin sbscess. However, once again, it could be one of several different things, and so I cannot provide you with a specific diagnosis. A visit to a general surgeon or colorectal surgeon might be appropriate for this problem.

As for your multiple other symptoms, if they do not significantly improve within a couple of weeks after starting Protonix, then you should undergo a full GI work-up. Since the various symptoms that you describe are unlikely to all be related to gastroesophageal reflux (GERD), I would also advise you to see your Internist or Family Physician for further evaluation of these multiple health issues that you are experiencing.

Sincerely/ Robert A. Wascher, MD, FACS
