Hi, I just found out today after an ultra sound of my kidneys, that the radioligist found a small abnormality on my right kidney. A few days ago I did have some blood in my urine, but none since. My question is what could the small abnormality be? I heard the radioligist talking with each other and I heard 3mm size about something. My Doctor called me and set me up with a CT scan for Thursday. He also told me that my blood work came back and everything looks good, cell count, Ect, Ect. Any ideas would be greatly apreciative as I'm driving myself crazy thinking the worst. Again thank you for all and or any help provided!!!

Hi and Welcome to eHealth

It's possible you might have stone or cyst. I don't like to even guess what it can be, as I am not a doctor but these are 2 things I deal with myself that's why I mentioned it.
It's good that your blood work looks good. When you had the blood in your urine did you notice any pain when urinating?
Have you ever had kidney stones before?

You beat me to the punch, Butterfly.

Crashralph, I would like to say that she is correct about the stones or cysts. Some people get them because of diet and some are hereditary. There is generally pain that accompanies blood in the urine, so, how about it? Any pain?

You should know more about the kidney abnormality after the scan and I'm sure your doctor will explain what you need to do next. At least if your blood work was good, that probably rules out any infection.

Thank you everybody!!!
My fault, I did have pain when I urinated that Wednesday. On a scale of 1-10 I would rate the pain at a 7. I do have a high tolerance for pain though for one reason or another. If it is a stone or a cyst whats the next step? Biopsy, disolver, ect, ect? Again thanx to all who has replied, much apreciated.

Hi

No need to apologize. If it's a stone the doctor will determine if you can pass it on your own if not then they might do lithotripsy (sound/shock waves) to break up the stone and you'd have a stent in to help pass the pieces of the stone.
If it's a cyst they will monitor it for changes in size, sometimes the cyst will pop on their own.
A biopsy would done is if the doctor suspects something is wrong with kidney in which they'd be looking for kidney disease.
Have they mentioned anything about a biopsy?

Hi!!!
No not at this point, just waiting for the Ct to give them a better picture I guess. I just listened to the message my doctor left me again and he basicaly say's That there was a suttle abonormality found on my right kidney and that the radioligist couldn't decern wether it was something of concern or a benine varience of my anatomy and that there were going to give that Ct scan to clearify this. What ever that all means! Thank you again for all your help!!!!

Kidney
Hi, My right kidney is smaller than the Left one. It measure 4.5*2.2*0.50 Cms. Is it a cause of concern & also when I got my urine analysis it showed the presence of 6 to RBCs. Am a little worried, what should I do? My physician is confusing me.

Hi and welcome to eHealth

Is your doctor planning on doing any further testing? Are you seeing a urologist or nehprologist?
Some people are born with smaller organs than others are. Is this something you born with?

I'd hate to speculate without knowing more information.

I know it's easier said than done but try not to worry, if you need to call your doctor back and him/her to explain this to you a little bit more.

Please keep us posted.

Updated info regarding my CT/With a new question!
Hello again and thank you to everybody who has been responding. I had my CT-scan on Thursday. I heard back from the doctor on Friday who is now sending me to a Urologist on Monday for 8mm sized cyst on my right kidney. So my question is. What happens from here on out? I'm still having some pain and discomfort. The fact I know that its there is bothering me mentally. What are the chances of having the Cyst removed and in doing so is this a danger to myself? My pain is in my right side under the rib cage which feels like a bruised rib, weird. So far no more pain or blood when I urinate. Also for the 1st time that I can recall, I got really constipated over the last few days and felt and looked like I was going to pop, THANK GOD that went away! Any Hep, Ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Hi

Glad you are going to see a urologist, but I am sorry to hear about the cyst. The urologist might run some further tests. My cysts have popped on their own. Some doctors prefer to monitor the cyst but seeing as though you are having pain, he or she will more than likely run a couple more tests. Most cyst are found by accident on a scan that's how mine were found.
The pain in and around your ribs could be the kidney putting pressure on the ribs.
Did they mention anything about hydronephrosis to you?
Try not to stress (I know it tough to wait for an answer). Hang in there and please keep us posted..Smile

Hi
Hi thanks for all the support, met my doc & he says that all is fine with my kidneys, just that I was born with one small kidne(right) and the left has grown bigger and stronger to compensate the small one, however he suspects that i might have a couple of stones which has passed in the urine and caused an infection /pricking sensation. Thanks for all the support.

I also met my Homeopathy Doctor, her medicines worked wonders, guess one should consider that line of medication as well.

Take care

Ravi
