Hello,

I know there are a couple of topics on this but my case seems 'slightly' different.

I was told I had a Slipped femoral epiphysis in my left hip when I was 9 years old. They took me straight to the hospital (in Nottingham, England) and put me on traction. They said my right hip was fine but they said if they pin the left hip the right hip would go the same shortly after. So to 'save' me having 2 operations they pinned both hips.

I am 25 years old now and normally only suffer pain in the winter time. I assume this is because of the damp weather??? but a few years ago i had a really bad spurt of pain where i couldnt even walk properly. I went to the doc's and they said one of my pins had moved and was rubbing inside my hip. They said there wasn't much they could do and it would go back. Which it did after a few days/weeks.

When I had my hips pinned when I was 9 the doc's told my mum they would take my pins out when i was 18 years old???? I got distarged from having to have them x-rayed each year when i was 13 as the gap had total closed. continued....

I am really struggling at the min with pain, mainly when my hip goes side ways. Getting out of bed, going downstairs (not upstairs?), getting out of the car and many other times lol.

When I was 18 I went to the doc's and asked them about them being removed and they said they don't and wont touch them if they are giving me any trouble (which they weren't at the time). The pain is getting me down now, it is bareable but i'm just worried as its not right to be living with this pain and i look stupid with random outbursts of pain lol.

Just wondered if anyone else gets this and if they do have they had their pins removed and was it any better? Do you just shut up and deal with it when the pain occur's? Should my pins have been removed after the operation or at 13 when the gap had closed?

I work full time and cant afford time off for an operation and recovery, but also dont want to just live in pain randomly. Dont know anyone thats had their hips pins and could do with talking to people with the same problems. I have read peoples stroies on here and some sound horrible. So I count myself lucky that I didnt have to go through all that. It wasn't a very big issue for me at the time. I'd say i'm suffering more now I have got older. Its been 16 years since I had them pinned and just wondering what the future will hold for my hips????

I have tried googing it and this website has given me more info than I could find elsewhere. Please help. Raich x

You may want to address this to the doctor at the top of the page for a better answer...However, I would think that after all these years and your body growing that they should be changed...If they are shifting it is because they do not fit right...I sure would check it out rather than live a life of pain...Good luck...
